Hello!

Welcome to my new blog. I am hoping it will be easier to keep updated than the previous ‘diary’ page. We shall see! First of all I need to say hello to all the schools I have visited recently. I keep promising I’ll mention them on my new blog so I’d better do it.

Spalding in Lincolnshire is first on my list. I appeared on a panel alongside authors Alan MacDonald, Elizabeth Baguley and Louise Dale. Many thanks to the pupils and staff at St Paul’s Primary School, Spalding Parish School, Spalding Primary and St John’s for making the afternoon so enjoyable.

Hello next to all of you who turned up for my creative writing session at the Cheltenham Literature Festival. I hope you are all turning out those best sellers (but not too quickly – there’s enough competition out there already).

November 5th found me at Grantham Library meeting Y3/4 classes from the National School in the morning and St Mary’s and St Anne’s in the afternoon. What a bonny lot you were! Keep reading, guys.

The week after I was northbound up the A1 to Canon Lee School just outside York. Three creative writing sessions and lunch with a David Tennant fanatic (Miss York, the librarian) and a-soon-to-be-published head of English (Mrs Child). Great kids. Great staff. Great stuff.

Finally (for this week) it was a journey over the moors to Rishworth School. I felt like Postman Pat, driving along the narrowest of roads (my SATNAV having a laugh), some icy, some cobbled, some far too steep for my liking. It was worth it though, just to be reminded how breathtaking the scenery around Huddersfield and Halifax is. Worth it, too, to meet up with librarian Sheila Shepherd again and the sparky pupils at Rishworth. At least when I go there I know I’m guaranteed to find at least one Huddersfield Town supporter.

More soon!

Helena
