Tom Plamer and I kicked off a new season of Reads United events at Rishworth School near Saddleworth and Halifax in Yorkshire yesterday. Y5/Y6 from surrounding primary schools (hello St John’s, Ripponden and Heathfield) and Y7 from Rishworth School came ot the school’s vast sports hall to hear us speak.
As you can see, Tom and I were sporting appropriate clothing for the event – me in my new Town shirt and Tom in his special edition ‘Foul Play’ top. I tried not to be jealous that Tom’s publisher had commissioned his shirt especially. I want a Girls FC one please.
The kids were great and the highlight was, as usual, Tom’s penalty shoot out at the end. Congratulations to Joseph from Rishworth School for winning and thank you to the Y6 Man City fan who took the photo of Joseph with the precious Reading Game trophy. I’d also like to thank Sheila Sheppard, the librarian at Rishworth School for inviting us and the Headteacher, Mr Baker, for welcoming us. I always say it’s a sign of a good school when a busy headteacher takes time to say hello.
