*Namedropping alert* If you read my blog because you like books and children’s authors you are in for a treat. This weekend was the bi-annual meeting of the Scattered Authors’ Society in a top secret location somewhere in the UK (Peterborough).
I had a great time. I’ve been a member of the SAS for over ten years now so I count many of the members as real friends. I met some members for the first time this weekend including Sue Mongredien (Sleepover Club, Secret Mermaids series etc) Pauline Fisk (Midnight Blue) and Keren David (When I Was Joe – see my book review here)

I’m afraid I can’t tell you what the SAS does on these weekends as it’s TOP SECRET and I would be thrown out for gross insubordination but I am going to mention that Joy Court joined us. Joy is the Learning Resources Manager of Coventry School Library Service and has edited this brilliant book ‘Read to Succeed.’
Read to Succeed is full of useful advice for teachers, librarians, parents and authors on how to get children reading for pleasure. It includes a brilliant chapter on how to review books properly and fabulous quotes from the great and the good. I love this one by Michael Morpurgo: ‘Without the sunlight of literature children cannot grow as they should.’
More Scattered Authors: Fiona Dunbar (Toonhead, Jinx) Adele Geras (Troy, Dido, Facing the Light) Jacob Sager Weinstein (How Not to Kill your Baby), me & Keren David
This week it’s back to editing my non-fiction book on girls’ football but there will be more name dropping on Wednesday. I’m going to a seminar in London and Children’s Laureate Julia Donaldson is one of the guest speakers. Talk about cups running over. Sheesh.
