Leamington Spa Library: Olympic Heroes

I had a super day yesterday at Leamington Spa Library. Leamington Spa – or to give the town its Sunday name – Royal Leamington Spa. The library is situated bang in the middle of this fine Georgian town with museum and tourist information all under one graceful roof.

I was talking about Olympic Heroes as part of Warwickshire’s Summer Reading Challenge.  I began with a PowerPoint presentation of some famous sportsmen and women, past and present.

Sheffield’s Jessica Ennis, heptathlon

I’m always interested in who the children choose as their heroes. This week, at the end of the Olympics, we had three for Jessica Ennis, two for Usain Bolt, one each  for Victoria Pendleton and Oscar Pistorius a surprise entry for Joe Hart, the Manchester City and England goalkeeper.

Thank you to everyone who came to the session and made it such fun. A gold medal goes to Elaine, the  librarian at Leamington Spa Library for her dogged determination in ensuring that the projector and screen were up and ready to go!
