Simone is loosely based on a girl I used to teach called Margaret. Margaret had two best friends who liked her but detested each other. Poor Margaret always felt as if she were being torn in half, especially as they'd get jealous of each other if Margaret went to one of their houses and not the other. I used Margaret's dilemma in 'Simone's Letters' with the two warring friends being Melanie McCloud and Chloe Shepherd.
